Reviews Of the Best Books I've Used For Engine Tuning & Modifying - 2. How to Build & Power Tune Distributor-type Ignition Systems
by Des Hammill

"When manufacturers design and build engines they make them to suit a wide range of operating conditions and to suit all types of driving style..."

To read reviews of the other Engine Tuning and Modification books I found excellent, just click on the relevant links at the bottom of this page.

How to Build & Power Tune Distributor-type Ignition Systems (Speedpro) (Paperback)
by Des Hammill

Book CoverThis book is well written, precise and most informative.  It was a bit of a revelation... I never thought of ignition systems in this way before.

It shows you how to modify and improve your engine with expert tricks and knowledge that'll maximise acceleration, tractability, progression, fuel economy, efficiency and horsepower.

Des Hammill gives in-depth information on:

  • how to maximise and sustain ignition/spark quality

  • What is ignition timing,

  • what is Static advance, idle advance,
mechanical advance progression, vacuum advance, full
    advance,

  • how to make precise timing marks,

  • points type distributor and electronic type distributor basics and how
    to modify them,

  • what are centrifugal weights and how to
    modify them,

  • standard Coils, uprated coils, racing coils,
alternators, HT leads and lots more.

This book gives expert knowledge on how to really wring out your engine's full potential. Covers all traditional distributor based ignition systems.

Great book, concise - top marks!
