How to Build and
Power Tune Ford Pinto
Engines (Including Cosworth) (Speedpro)
(Paperback)
by Des Hammill (Author)
"In all Pinto engines
the standard forged
connecting rods are
reliable to about
6700rpm with the
standard weight pistons
and piston pins fitted
but are..."
My review:
(Name on the
actual book is:
How to power tune Ford
SOHC 'pinto' & sierra
cosworth DOHC engines)
This is expert
practical advise from an
experienced race engine
builder for building a
hi-performance pinto or
cosworth engine.
Does not cover
turbocharging or
supercharging, E-max
1600 or American built
2300 version.
The book starts off with
the few weaknesess on
the engine and gives
excellent information on
how to improve on them.
Great attention is given
in building a
'bulletproof' engine
that is powerful,
reliable and efficient.
Also professional
techniques are explained
on how to assemble your
engine using very fine
tolerances.
Maximum use of FoMoCo
parts. (Ford Motor
Company).
Even those with a
smaller budget will find
information on how to
build a 'bulletproof'
pinto or cosworth
engine.
This book is reasonably
serious and it
approaches the matter of
building a
hi-performance racing
engine with what I'll
describe as a stern and
disciplined way. Or
maybe I should say
mature.
The cylinder head
chapter is not as
elaborate or exotic as
David Vizard's book on
the same engine but I
think that is for a good
reason. This book covers
fundamental
hi-performance racing
engine issues that David
Vizard left out.
If David Vizards book is
regarded as the Bible
for tuning the pinto
engine then this is the
Koran - and reading both
will give you a better
understanding!
Here goes the contents
as I read:
-problem areas
-short block components
-replacement parts
-short block rebuild
-cylinder head
-compression ratio
-camshafts
-valve springs
-rockers and rocker
geometry
-exhaust systems
-flywheel and clutch
-ignition system
-carburettors
-sierra cosworth engines
& cosworth headed pinto
engines
-starting engines &
oiling requirements
A comprehensive book
that if followed to the
last page will see your
opposition blown to the
winds!
