Reviews On Best Books I've Used For Engine Tuning & Modifying -
How to Build, Modify and Power Tune Cylinder Heads
by Peter Burgess and David Gollan

To read reviews of other great Engine Tuning and Modifying books please find a list at the bottom of this page.  And now here's the review for:

6.  How to Build, Modify and Power Tune Cylinder Heads (Speedpro) (Paperback)
by Peter Burgess (Author), and David Gollan (Author)
"For those of you already familiar with internal combustion engines and the four stroke cycle, please bear with us ..."

My review:  Both of the authors have been deeply involved in cylinder head modification for many years and have put together a marvellous book that will give the DIY engine builder the knowledge to succesfully modify the most undoubtebly complex contrivance of any engine. That is the cylinder head.
Covers all types of cylinder heads except 2-stroke.

This book is scientific - almost psychological, dare I say.

Whether you have previous experience in cylinder head modification or not you will find this book an excellent one. And yes, it does cover some basics too!
From horsepower production fundamentals to precise instructions on how to build your very own flowbench in your back yard.

Which tools you will need, which tools you will not need, special cleaning procedures, machining ...and more.

Here's a list of the contents:

-What is horsepower
-types of cylinder head
-theory & thoughts
-the flowbench
-development pointers
-head work
-modification work
-valves, blueprinting, buretting, CR & 'unmodified' class heads
- valve train components
-camshafts
-fuel & fuel supply
-exhaust system
-ignition system
-head cases
-appendix

This book's funny, intelligent and warm!

And it's a must for serious horsepower production.

It also has a review on Amazon as follows:

"Good book as an introduction,

This book is really good to provide an overview to the subject of cylinder head modifications. The text is quite clear to understand but the book is generally introductory in tone and content. This book will suit a DIY enthusiast and someone wanting a better knowledge base. A trained professional will find this book too "basic" and therefore should consider other options. The book is well ilustrated and has some helpful case studies of popular heads such as pinto, Xflow, A series, Essex V6 and Rover V8"

...and here's a list of reviews of the other top books I've read - in no particular order, they were all great books and well worth using.  You can still find all of them at Amazon at time of writing.  Click on the link of the titles you find interesting:
