The 2012 Aldo Leopold Lone Star Land Steward winner, George and Cynthia Mitchell set aside 5,600 acres 50 years ago as a family gathering place. Today, Cook's Branch Conservancy is home to the largest number of family clusters of the the Endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker on private land west of the Mississippi River.
